- Field Day 2004: Saturday, June 26 to Sunday, June 27, noon to noon, East Field: Field Day! If you are an amateur radio operator and would like to help out, we are looking for voice and CW operators! Contact Erick/KG6NOT or Brian/KF6YWO (erick or shroom at dv8 dot org, respectively). If you are not licensed, come to our exam session and get your ham license! Otherwise, come support us, and take a look at what ham radio and emergency preparedness is all about. We will have brochures and will be glad to show you the ropes and answer all your questions! See also Brian's pictures from FD2003. Friday, June 25, 7:00pm, East Field: Field Day setup! - Wednesday, June 23, 6:00pm - 8:00pm at UCSC Bakin Engineering Room 330: Amateur Radio exam session with ARRL/VEC. All elements will be available. Bring two forms of identification (one must be a picture ID), CSCEs from a prior test, or your current license (original and photocopy), your SSN or FRN, and $12 exam fee. Timothy Jordan (KG6RVL) passed his Element 2 at the Field Day exam.

General meeting: WA6HHQ will give a talk on amateur radio at our meeting.
High Performance Receiver Design - Triple conversion, Double Conversion, Single Conversion - What's best? What's really important? Design tradeoffs and why this stuff fun to design and use!
He will cover what's really important in high performance receiver design with examples from current real world products. He will also discuss the design tradeoffs between analog and software/DSP implementations.
This is an informal talk, so questions during the presentation are welcomed!

- Saturday and Sunday, June 22 - 23: Join us for Field Day at the East Field. Get involved! You don't have to be a licensed amateur radio operator to help out or hang out on Field Day. Come see what ham radio is all about! Talk to excited and sleepy hams; help us by logging contacts. E-mail fire/KG6KXF if you'd like to help out in the HF (high frequency) tent. - Friday, June 21: IEEE Field Day Camp-out! At sundown, we will set up camp in the East Field at UCSC. We will have finished setup for Saturday and Sunday's Field Day, an amateur radio event. Bring your camping supplies and join us for a night under the stars! Free food provided by IEEE Student Branch.

- Friday, June 21: Amateur Radio Exam session here at UCSC on Friday, June 21, 2002 @ 6:00pm sharp in Baskin Engineering room 165. Don't forget to bring $10 cash! Walk-in. No reservations required. Important: Bring two forms of identification (one should be a picture ID), the original and a photocopy of your current Amateur Radio license (if you are a Ham), and the original and a photocopy of any CSCEs showing earlier completions.
- Saturday, June 15: Congratulations new hams! Eric Perlman (KG6LWC) and Daniel Walker (KG6LWD) passed the no-code technician test in Redwood City. Alexandra Carey (KG6KXF) passed the 5WPM code test. Last Monday, June 10, Eric Cain (KG6LSM) passed the no-code technician test.
